Set up a subscriber profile (custom data) field
A subscriber profile allows you to import tailored information into your Sign-Up.to account as well as collect information from your data capture form.
First head to Collect and click the ‘Subscriber Profile’ link at the top of the page. Here you can add multiple subscriber profiles. To add a profile click the ‘Add new subscriber profile field’ at the top of the page.
In the window that now opens up you’ll firstly need to select a field type for the information you’re collecting. There are five different options (see below) and in this example we will use the drop down option, as this is a popular field type to use.
- The single line option allows for any data to be imported, though it’s important to remember that you can’t define a send by this option. Paragraph is similar to this, but allows for more information to be imported.
- The drop box and multiple select options are similar to each other as they allow you to preset the information you’re collecting. It’s important that that imported data is the same as the preset options in order for the data to be recognised.
- The tick box option allows subscribers to make a choice based on an option/options you give them.
- When importing information for the multiple select option, you can separate answers with a comma.
Below the field type you can choose the label/question for the profiling, and this is the text that will appear on your data capture form.
Next you can select the size/options of the field, which equates to how much information the subscriber can provide, or how many options they have. In this example we’ll add three options. If you’re using the single line or paragraph field type you’ll have an option to have a pre-filled answer.
If at any point you’re unsure as to how the field will look you’ll see a preview pane at the bottom of the window.
Below this the import header is preset for you. This is the column heading you’ll need in the Excel file (if you’re adding pre-existing data). This can be amended if you’d prefer to use another header. There are then 4 additional options (for the drop down field).
- Compulsory: Does the subscriber have to answer/give information?
- Allow subscriber to amend choice later: This gives subscribers the option to amend their answer at a later date in the ‘manage your subscriptions’ page.
- Display in reports: By checking this option you’ll be able to view this profile field in analysis reports, associating answers with clicks and opens, for example.
- Hidden: You’ll use this if you don’t want it to be available on the data capture form but you want to store that information privately.
Once you’re happy with the field you’ve created click the ‘OK’ button. This will take you back to the subscriber profile page, where you will see the profile you have just created. You’ll also see all of your subscriber profiles on this page, and can edit and delete profiles.
