Data capture forms are a great way to build your mailing list. By creating a form in Sign-Up.to and linking to it on your website you can make it easy for people to subscribe to your newsletter, enter a competition, fill in a quick survey and much more. The captured data will be put straight in to your chosen list in your account.

Data captured through web forms is validated using Confirmed Opt-In. After completing a form each user is sent an email with a unique link in it which they must click to finish the subscription process and appear in your lists. This is to stop people signing up others without their consent, and prevent worthless junk data being stored in your account. Once you have created your form you can customise the confirmation email that is sent, or use the default one we create for you.

To create a data capture form, first click Collect. Then select an existing list to add subscribers to, or create an new one and click Add Form. If you are unsure as to how to create lists and folders within your account, click here for our helpful guide.

A small window will appear where you can name your form and chose the data you wish to capture.

It is automatically assumed that you wish to capture the email address, but below this you can choose other information you’d like to collect, including any subscriber profiling. Once you’ve selected a data field, click the green add button and this will add the information to your form. Under options you can chose whether the information is optional or mandatory and you can also remove the field in this section.

At this point you can either finish or proceed to the next step. On the next page you can set the text that will appear on each step of your form. If you leave these boxes blank, the default text will be used. To see a preview of your text or view the default text click the preview button. You can also reset the information at any time by clicking the reset link.

The next page allows you to add a header and footer image as well as chose the fonts and colours of your data capture form. This allows you to style the form to your branding.

Towards the bottom of the page, under notification, you can select an email address that will receive notification of any confirmed subscriptions. You can also give your subscribers the option to add themselves to additional lists.

Once you click proceed, you’ll be provided with a form URL as well as Facebook coding which allows you to place your data capture form on your Facebook page.

Once saved, in Collect you can see the form you’ve created under the list name. You can make changes to the form at any point by clicking the edit link. You can also preview the form by clicking the preview link.
